michael — chaos and the observer austin, tx
Michael Goude in his studio

Michael is an Austin-based artist working somewhere between chaos, instinct, and the unknown.

His work grows out of a fascination with the strange, the absurd, and the things that live just outside the edges of what we can explain. Strange creatures, curious forms, flashes of color. Familiar enough to draw you in, weird enough to leave you wondering what the hell you’re looking at.

For Michael, making art is a kind of alchemy: taking the raw material of being alive — the beautiful, the broken, the ridiculous, the uncomfortable — and transforming it into something that can’t be entirely understood, only encountered. Every creation is a portal into another reality. Not somewhere else, but a different way of seeing what’s already here.

Maybe all we are is process. Constantly becoming, breaking down, rearranging, making and unmaking ourselves. The work is less concerned with answers than with transformation itself — following a thread into the unknown and seeing what comes back.

Through Chaos and the Observer, Michael creates images and objects that live somewhere between artifact, creature, and message from another place. Playful, unsettling, occasionally absurd, and always a little hard to pin down. An invitation to loosen your grip on what things are supposed to mean, and make room for the mystery.
